In a surprise announcement, 2K games and Firaxis revealed a new XCOM game titled XCOM: Chimera Squad that is slated for release on 24 April. The new game is set five years after the events of XCOM 2 but is a completely separate from the previous XCOM games. The game will be released for Windows PC at the special limited-time introductory price of $9.99 but will retail for $19.99 by 1 May.

“With XCOM: Chimera Squad, we felt there were exciting gameplay opportunities yet to be discovered within the XCOM universe. Gameplay like Breach Mode, interleaved turn order, and the introduction of agents as fully fleshed-out characters will revolutionize how the game plays while still retaining the combat experience that makes the XCOM series so loved by gaming communities around the world,” Firaxis Games Lead Designer Mark Nauta said in a statement.

XCOM: Chimera Squad features 11 human and alien agents each having unique personalities and tactical and combat strategies. An initiative-based turn system (interleaved turns) slots characters and enemies in an alternating order to open strategic opportunities or pose greater risk for players. It also tasks players to manage the HQ and complete timed tasks, investigations and assignments outside of combat.
